My recent focus has been on creating a zero waste personal care routine, which has shown the need for sustainable bathroom product switches! There is a lot of plastic and waste in typical bathroom products, not to mention toxic ingredients.
It can be overwhelming, but I’m breaking down 17 switches we can make to transition to a more low waste, eco-friendly bathroom.

1. Organic Cotton Towels from Delilah Home
Delilah Home’s naturally soft and fluffy organic towels are a great way to add sustainability to everyday life. I’m swooning over how incredibly plush and luxurious these towels look. The 20 five-star reviews verify that these towels are as amazing as they appear!
The eco-minded brand’s towels are made from Turkish cotton certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard. Delilah Home also has certifications from Green America, OneCert, and Textile Exchange.

2. Shampoo and Conditioner Bars
When beginning your low-waste bathroom transition, start by switching to bars! Each time you run out of something in a plastic bottle, like shampoo, consider getting it in bar form next time!
For a zero waste hair care routine, EcoRoots has plenty of options made with natural and organic ingredients. I tested their Forest Mist shampoo bar and conditioner bar and they smell amazing and have worked great with my hair! The package-free bars are also palm oil-free and vegan. (You can explore more of their shampoo & conditioner bars in their Bath & Beauty collection.)

3. Refillable Body Wash & Hand Wash
For refillable zero waste body care, Plaine Products is the leader! They offer vegan zero waste body wash and hand wash that is palm-oil free and made with organic ingredients.
How it works: When you’re done with the body wash or hand wash, simply order a refill and send back your used aluminum bottle to be cleaned and reused.
And, when you buy these products from Green Eco Dream, you can subscribe and save 10% on Plaine Products’ refillable essentials!

4. All-Natural Low Waste Mouthwash
Low-waste refillable mouthwash can freshen breath while minimizing waste. Most zero waste mouthwashes today are tablet form, which not everyone enjoys. Honestly, after switching to tablets, I used mouthwash less since it wasn’t as convenient!
So Nix Mouthwash is a great natural alternative that’s easy to use, tastes great, and is still low waste. I found myself reaching for Nix daily even when I had some tablets left because it’s so much easier to use.
How does it work? Your first package is a filled mouthwash container and a glass jar refill. Once empty, just add scoops of refill to the container and fill with water. When out of refills, order another glass jar!
Everything else works like regular mouthwash – pour out the amount, swish and spit. No extra steps needed!

5. Cocofloss
Conscious Life & Style PartnerNo need to sacrifice effectiveness for sustainability with dental hygiene. Cocofloss’s award-winning textured floss is made from recycled bottles and infused with cleansing, antibacterial coconut oil and natural scents like spearmint. The recycled floss has a textured weave that effectively removes plaque. It’s also free of toxins like BPA, parabens, SLS, and PFAS.
To reduce plastic waste, Cocofloss offers compostable floss refills. One reviewer shares using the same case for three years!
With 4.7 stars from nearly 6,000 reviews, Cocofloss is on to something!

6. David’s Recyclable Natural Toothpaste Tube
David’s natural toothpaste is one of the best – it has the highest EWG rating, it’s not tested on animals, 98% of ingredients are US-sourced, and it comes in a recyclable metal tube!
You can also make DIY toothpaste if you’re comfortable with that. Just ensure the recipe is effective — you may want to check with your dentist.

7. Bamboo Toothbrush
Getting a new plastic toothbrush every few months adds up to a lot of waste – multiply that by everyone using toothbrushes and we have a big problem. Bamboo toothbrushes can be a compostable, eco-friendly alternative.
The bamboo toothbrush company I used before doesn’t seem to be around now, but you can find them from EcoRoots!

8. Metal Safety Razor
No secret that disposable plastic razors create massive waste – even in the 1990s, the EPA estimated 2 billion tossed yearly! And it’s frustrating constantly paying for expensive blades!
The zero-waste swap? Durable metal safety razors. EcoRoots sent me a rose gold one to try and friends, the experience is so different with a safety razor. It feels chic so I look forward to shaving. Beyond aesthetics, the performance compared to disposables is making me wish I’d switched sooner. Safety razors allow a much closer shave, leaving smoother skin.
Note: Like any razor, use shaving soap and water to reduce irritation or cuts!

9. Organic Shaving Soap Bar
Speaking of shaving soap… EcoRoots also has a zero-waste solution. Their organic bar has a nourishing formula with coconut oil, avocado oil, and cocoa butter, plus lovely essential oils like lemon and lavender. It smells fantastic – instantly brightening! I also loved it came plastic-free and lightweight to minimize waste.

10. Bathroom Accessories from Full Circle Home
Full Circle Home has elegant plastic-free bathroom accessories built to last. Their products use materials like bamboo, ceramic, and recycled glass. (Their soap dispenser contains some recycled plastic.)
I have their sleek, quality toothbrush holder and soap dish. They also clean up nicely!

11. TUSHY Attachable Bidet
Bidets are a no-brainer for sustainable bathrooms. They reduce waste, are more hygienic, and save money long-term.
Bidets are like sinks for toilets to help cut down or eliminate toilet paper. While standalone bidets are pricey and need advanced plumbing, attachments like TUSHY retail under $100 and install in under 20 minutes. Check out my TUSHY Classic Bidet review here.

12. Bamboo Toilet Paper or Recycled TP
Standard toilet paper causes tremendous tree destruction. Recycled toilet paper is a great eco option, though it may contain some BPA from recycled receipts. Bamboo toilet paper is another sustainable (typically softer) choice since bamboo grows incredibly fast. Bamboo TP also uses less water – TUSHY says one roll of their Bamboo TP takes 0.59 gallons while conventional TP takes 37 gallons.

13. Zero Waste Period Products
There are many low waste period options depending on your flow, lifestyle, and preferences. For a full overview, check out our Guide to Organic, Sustainable, Zero Waste Period Products.
My favorites: For cups, I’ve liked Saalt best so far. For reusable pads/liners, I love GladRags! I also use period underwear on heavier days as backup for my cup.
For me, the cup is a lifesaver – far more comfortable and convenient. But others dislike them and only use reusable pads or underwear. Find what works best for you – it may take some experimenting!

14. Organic Castile Soap for Cleaning
Castile soap is a concentrated, versatile cleaner – perfect for your sustainable cleaning arsenal. Dilution is key! Here’s a quick guide to dilutions from Dr. Bronner’s with 18 uses for this one ingredient.
Personally, I think it works better for cleaning than body wash since it can dry skin!
While there are many Castile soaps, I suggest Dr. Bronner’s because they use mostly organic and fair trade ingredients, including regenerative organic coconut oil, and package it all up in a post-consumer recycled bottle.

15. Homemade Natural Deodorant
Deodorant is a simple DIY to make at home. This recipe has just 3 ingredients: coconut oil, baking soda or arrowroot powder, and essential oils. I’ve tried some natural deodorants before that didn’t work quite right, so I decided to make my own! This one works for me without irritating my skin. Everyone will need to find the right option, but if you want to try making your own deodorant, this is an easy recipe!

17. Reusable Cotton Rounds
